Used to Be (Featuring Stevie Wonder)

Used to Be is a song sang by Charlene, the one hit wonder, and Stevie Wonder. It was released in 1983 and Charlene commented "This song was before its time."

Lyrics and Meaning

"Used to Be" describes the world in a time of crisis and repeatedly states "The world isn't what it used to be." Towards the end, the song takes a religious spin mentioning the hanging of Jesus to the cross saying "Someone tried to say it, then we nailed Him to a cross" saying that Jesus tried to tell us to be better people and we killed him for it. At the end of the song, the singer(s) realize that "used to be" isn't so great and that nothing has really changed.
